Muslim Freedom Fighters of India is a two-part history of the freedom struggle, 638 pages in all, and the result of 16 months of research by Salim Khan and his team.

Part 1 goes back two hundred years, to Siraj ud-Daulah and his stand against the East India Company, and to how he was betrayed for a few rupees and false promises. It then tells the story of the Tiger of Mysore, Tipu Sultan, and the defiance that cost him his life.

Part 2 drops you into the modern freedom movement: Shaukat Ali and Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Maulana Azad and Hasrat Mohani, and Ashfaqulla Khan, whose death inspired Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Muslims are often left out of the story of India’s freedom, or not given the credit they are due. This book puts their names back where they belong, so the next generation grows up knowing them.

    Salim Khan

    Researcher and educator. He works from the sources and writes in plain English, for readers who were never taught this history at school.

    Salim Khan started out as an Arabic calligrapher and a student of the Arabic language. His early years went into researching Islamic history, and that research led him to the history of India: the Mughals, and the part Muslims played in the freedom struggle. That is what made him start writing about their contribution to the making of this country.

    Salim Khan has spent more than ten years researching Islamic and Indian history. His first book, The Golden Age of Islam, became a bestseller, and each book since has started from the sources: contemporary accounts, Persian chronicles, East India Company records, newspapers and court papers.

    His research on Palestine, The Land Called Palestine, found readers in the US and Europe. Muslim Freedom Fighters of India took his team 16 months of research, and The Wire reviewed it.

    He writes in plain English on purpose, so that a whole family can read the same book and pass it on.
