Muslim Freedom Fighters of India is a two-part history of the freedom struggle, 638 pages in all, and the result of 16 months of research by Salim Khan and his team.

Part 1 goes back two hundred years, to Siraj ud-Daulah and his stand against the East India Company, and to how he was betrayed for a few rupees and false promises. It then tells the story of the Tiger of Mysore, Tipu Sultan, and the defiance that cost him his life.

Part 2 drops you into the modern freedom movement: Shaukat Ali and Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Maulana Azad and Hasrat Mohani, and Ashfaqulla Khan, whose death inspired Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Muslims are often left out of the story of India’s freedom, or not given the credit they are due. This book puts their names back where they belong, so the next generation grows up knowing them.

Tipu Sher-e-Mysore draws on contemporary accounts, Persian chronicles, East India Company records and modern scholarship. It follows him from his early years under Hyder Ali to the walls of Seringapatam, where he chose to fight to his last breath rather than surrender.

It is also the story of eighteenth-century India: his reforms, his iron-cased rockets, his trade networks and his embassies across Asia and the Middle East, and the wars that decided India’s future. It covers the sack of Seringapatam, what became of Tipu’s wealth, and how his rockets travelled to Europe.

The book dates every event and goes back to the sources, and lets the evidence speak, without asking you to accept or reject the myths.
